About the Challenge

Youth are facing two health crises.

A mental health crisis and a vaping public health crisis pose increasing threats to a generation of young people. These two are linked in ways many may not realize, according to a body of peer-reviewed studies.

While it is well known that nicotine harms developing brains, including by making young people more susceptible to addiction, lesser known are the worrying connections between nicotine and mental health. Though nicotine has not been found to directly cause mental health conditions and more research is needed, peer-reviewed studies reveal troubling links, including research that shows nicotine addiction can intensify symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Creating healthy coping strategies are important when addressing one's mental health and overall well-being. Whether that is finding a new hobby, getting outside, exercising, or talking to someone you trust.

Create a piece of original artwork that either illustrates healthy coping mechanisms that might help you quit vaping or how you would encourage a friend who vapes to find a new positive coping mechanism that is not vaping.

We will award one (1) Grand Prize Winner with $5,500, a Supreme merchandise gift pack AND their artwork may be featured on truth® merchandise. Four (4) Runner Up winners will each receive $1,125 and a Supreme merchandise gift pack.

DID you know?

Brain icon

Nicotine activates receptors in the brain which can then crave nicotine when you aren’t using it. This can make you feel more stressed until you satisfy that craving with more nicotine, and this cycle continues.

Stress icon

Nicotine addiction can intensify symptoms of depression and anxiety and increase stress levels.

sleeping icon

Vaping nicotine is associated with sleep problems. In a study using PATH data, e-cigarette use was associated with higher odds of sleep-related complaints; including bad dreams, sleeping restlessly, or falling asleep during the day; compared to non-use.
